On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11:56 PM, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company received a dispatch call regarding a structure fire at the “O Wash It” laundromat located at 21327 Rock Hall Avenue. The emergency call from a concerned citizen reported smoke and visible flames emerging from the eaves of the building.

Command 7 was the first unit to arrive on scene. Assistant Chief 7-1 quickly established command and conducted a tactical 360-degree size-up of the situation. This crucial assessment involved walking around the structure to gather vital information about the fire's location and extent, potential hazards present, the building's construction type, and identifying viable entry and exit points for firefighting crews.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that most of the fire was concentrated in the roof area of the building. Engine 7-2 was next on scene as the first arriving engine company. Crews swiftly located the source of the fire and worked diligently to extinguish it before it could spread further.

In addition to Rock Hall’s response, multiple mutual aid agencies responded promptly to assist in opening up the structure and clearing out smoke that had filled the interior. Delmarva Power also arrived on site to secure utilities; they cut off electricity to prevent any additional hazards during firefighting operations.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal was consulted via phone. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this event, underscoring both effective emergency response protocols and community safety measures.

Rock Hall Avenue was temporarily closed from Main Street to Judefind Avenue to ensure safety for both responders and bystanders while operations were conducted.

The incident was officially placed under control shortly thereafter, with all units cleared from the scene by 02:04 AM.

The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company extends its gratitude to all mutual aid agencies that responded and provided assistance during this incident.
