RHVFC responds to Fuel Spill in Harbor


On Saturday, August 25th, 2018 at approximately 9:55 AM, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for a hazmat situation in the water in the Rock Hall Harbor. Engine 72 was the first unit to arrive on location and assumed command. The call originated from DNR who was on location with a large fuel spill on the west side of the Harbor from North Point Marina to the Bayside Public Landing Park boat ramp. Boat 7 arrived on location and deployed over 1400 ft of absorbent boom closing off the west side of the harbor to boat traffic. Multiple mutual aid companies responded and assisted with the incident including, DNR, Rock Hall Police Department, Kent County Sheriff’s Office, Kent & Queen Anne’s Rescue Squad, Betterton Volunteer Fire Company, MDE and US Coast Guard. The scene was placed under control and units were cleared by MDE at 1:24 PM.

10:39 AM - West side of the Harbor shut down to boat traffic

11:37 AM - Bayside Park Public Landing Boat Ramp shut down

1:24 PM - Scene cleared by MDE, units returned to station
