2022 Guardian of the Pearl RockFish Tournament

Saturday, June 11th - Update 1

Rock Hall --- The Officers and Members of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company have embarked on a new fundraiser to assist with raising funds for equipment upgrades and tools.

Situated on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Rock Hall is a charming village known as The Pearl of the Chesapeake. The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company is a 501-C4 organization and was organized in 1927. The organization provides emergency services to the Town of Rock Hall and neighboring municipalities.

The company has two main funding sources, one being government funding which makes up 35% of the operating budget and the other funding source being company generated which makes up 65% of the operating budget, some examples of company generated funding includes fundraising, donations and ambulance billing fees. In addition to having families, jobs and protecting the community and responding to emergencies, the members of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company work tirelessly throughout the year to meet fundraising goals so they have the updated equipment and tools to keep the community and our families safe.

The new fundraiser, The Guardian of the Pearl Rockfish Tournament, is a three-day event that features a two-day tournament for both adult and youth anglers and a Captain’s Meeting. The Rockfish Tournament idea was brought to the company by Member Beth Councell with the intention of promoting heritage, tourism, and fishing for the town while raising funds for the RHVFC which serves it and surrounding communities.

The Captain’s Meeting was held at Waterman’s Crabhouse on June 10th, 2022 from 6 to 8 PM and gave the Captain’s and Angler's an opportunity to meet and greet as well as pick up their registration packets. Over 100 Participants gathered for food, exciting raffles and socializing before the start of the tournament.

The base for the Rockfish Tournament and weigh-in station is held at the Rock Hall Bulkhead where tournament staff will be on hand selling t-shirts and other swag. A total of 31 boats registered for the two-day tournament for both days and the overall prize payout is over $26,000! Pictures of fish being weighed in during the Tournament can be viewed on the Guardian of the Pearl Rockfish Tournament Facebook Page.

At the conclusion of the tournament on June 12th, 2022 at 3 PM, there is a prize presentation and awards ceremony planned. Additional information on the Tournament can be found on the website at: http://www.rockhallvfc.org/rockfishtournament. Additional updates will be posted throughout the duration of the Tournament.
